Verse 1

hūṅre piyāsī piyā tere darshan kī Mīrā Sayyid Khān (r.a.) Ejī hūṅre piyāsī piyā tere darshan kī, Āsh pūro piyā more man kī; Hūṅre piyāsī āsh torī, Tū chintā mori kyūṅ na karo; Khidmat khās khavās tori, Rūṭhā sājan kyūṅ phirojī

English meaning: O beloved! I am thirsty of your Didar; O beloved! Fulfill the hope of my heart. I am thirsty and you are my only hope; why do you not care about me? My most special service is for you. O beloved! Why do you turn away in anger?

Verse 2

Ejī suno mere kanth kahyā merā kīje, Muj nārīsūṅ abolā iyūṅ na rahīje; Karo karo kanth kahyā hamerā, Ham dukhī re doeliyā; Surijan mannī āsh pūro, To ham sukhī re soheliyājī

English meaning: O my Lord! Listen! Pay heed to what I say. Do not forsake speaking to your maidservant in this way. O Lord! Heed to what I say, I am wretched and sorrowful. Lord! Fulfill the wish of my heartso that I become glad and joyful.

Verse 3

Ejī jal bin machhlī so piyā bin kyūṅ raheve, Piyājīke kāraṇe so jīvḍādeve; Jal bin machhlī huī akelī, Dekho kyūṅ tarphaḍ mare; Tarphaḍ kūde kachhu na chāle, Meher māchhī na karejī

English meaning: O brother! Just as a fish ca nnot live without water, how can a lover live without his beloved? He gives up his life for his beloved. A fish is alone without water, see how it twitches in death. Its writhing and leaping are of no avail; the fisherman shows no mercy.

Verse 4

Ejī jūṭhīre prīt bhamarkī kahīye, Piyūjīkā darshan iyūṅ nav laiye; Jūṭhīre prīt bhamarkī kahīye, Jo kaliyāṅ kaliyāṅ ras let hae; Tem kiriyānāh ī ṇ āgāfal andhā, So piyā par jīv na det haejī

English meaning: O brother! The love of the bee is false; the Didar of the beloved is not attained in this way. The love of the bee is false for it sucks nectar from every bud. Such are those without good deeds, the heedless and blind, who do not sacrifice their life for the beloved.

Verse 5

Ejī sāchīre prīt patangkī kahīye, Piyūjīkā darshan iyūṅ kar laiye; Sāchīre prīt patangkī kahīye, Jo ulaṭ ulaṭ ang det hae; Ek dīpakkere kāraṇe, So kai patang jīv det haejī

English meaning: O brother! The love of the moth is true; in this way the Didar of the beloved is attained. The love of the moth is true who tumbles down to sacrifice its body. For the sake of a single lamp so many moths sacrifice their lives.

Verse 6

Ejīhamre piyā par sab hī vāriyā, Piyā mukh dīje vasat piyāriyā; Evā vār pher utār ḍālo, Kuchhuk bolṇā man dharo; Dayāk a r ī n e sāmī rākho amne, Evā veṇ mārāchint dharojī

English meaning: O brother! I have sacrificed everything for the beloved; offer your most favorite thing to the beloved. O Lord! Leave your capriciousness and decide to say something at least. Mercifully keep me with you and pay heed to these words of mine.

Verse 7

Ejī dīdārī hove so esā chahāve, Sāhebjīkū chhoḍ kar orkū na dhiyāve; Dīdārī hove so dil bāndhe, Nit nit adkāneh dhare; Ek man hokar nām leve, Piyūka darshan so karejī

English meaning: O brother! The one desirous of Didar wishes not to obey anyone except his own Lord. The one who craves for Didar attaches his heart to Him, increases his love day by day and invokes (His) name with full attention. Such a person attains the Didar of the beloved.

Verse 8

Ejī yatīm dāsīsūṅ esā na kīje, Mārā avguṇ hoe so guṇ karī līje; Hūṅre aprādhaṇ dāsī torī, Tū chintā morī kyūṅ na karo; Mārā avguṇ hoe to guṇ karo sāmī, Evā veṇ mārā chint dharojī

English meaning: O Lord! Do not behave thus to this orphan maidservant; if I have faults then make them virtues. I am your sinful mainservant, why do you not care about me? O Lord! If I have faults then make them virtues and pay heed to these words of mine.

Verse 9

Ejī nahīṅ kuchh hove so dāsī kahāve, Apne sahebjiku esā bhāve; Nahīṅ kuchh hove so dāsī kahāve, Nit uṭhadkāneh dhare; Ek man hokar nām leve, Iyūṅ kari jālo dehrejī

English meaning: O brother! Only the one who considers herself nothing can be called a maidservant and our Lord is pleased with such deed. The one who considers herself nothing can be called a maidservant. She keeps on intensifying her love every day and invokes (His) name in singleness of mind. O brother! In this way achieve control over your self.

Verse 10

Ejī ek man thai sāhebjīsūṅ rahīye, Hetesūṅ rang esā lahīye; Hek man thai rahīye sāhebjīsūṅ, Chāho ghaṇero kījīye; Prem upar shīsh deve, To piyākā darshan so karejī

English meaning: O brother! Remain concentrated in the remembrance of the Lord and accept the color of His love in this way. Remain concentrated in the remembrance of the Lord and have deep love. He who s acrifices his head in love attains the Didar of the beloved.

Verse 11

Ejī prem tantav jesā na dekhūṅ koi, Sāheb rīje karīye bhī sohī; Preme mohiyā je muvā, Teno bhalo jīvīyo sansārre; Kartav āchhā kījīye, To sāheb langhāve pārji

English meaning: O brother! I see nothing to match the element of love. Do that which pleases the Lord. Those who died in devotion to love lived their lives well. Perform good deeds so that the Lord may take you to the shore.

Verse 12

Ejīham gunehgār bandā bhī terā, Sār karo sāheb morī saverā; Sār kidhi sāhebjīe mori, Rang raliyā karo sāheliyā; Narne parsāde Mīrā bhaṇe Sayyad Khān, Bhāgā te dukh doheliyājī

English meaning: O Lord! I am your sinful servant, O Lord! Help me soon. O friends! Rejoice, for my Lord has helped me. With the grace of the Imam, Mira Sayyid Khan (r.a.) says that all sorrows and miseries have been removed.
