Verse 1

Ejī magajre moman mārag lādho, Evo lādho to ghaṇero ārādho

English meaning: O brother! You have obtained a path full of essence. When you have obtained such a path then act thoroughly upon it.

Verse 2

Ejī nahīṅ kuchh hoeso to sarve kuchh thāeso, Evā sarve kuchh shāhjīne bhāvejī

English meaning: O brother! Regard yourself nothing then you will become everything, and such everything pleases the Lord.

Verse 3

Ejī detā re hoe moman detāsūṅ milīye, Evo man māṅhe āṇīne dīje

English meaning: O believer! There is benefit in giving, so be amongst the givers. Think like this in your heart and give.

Verse 4

Ejī āchhā māṅhethī āchhero dīje, Evo khālī te rang ma rāchojī

English meaning: O my brother! Give pure (dasond) from pure earnings. Do not unnecessarily indulge in ostentation.

Verse 5

Ejī shītal sarve ras sarve rātiyūṅ jāge, Tenā mukhmāṅhe amrat varse

English meaning: O brother! He who controls a ll desires and stays awake the whole night, nectar flows from his mouth.

Verse 6

Ejī nav nāḍ panjbhū bhītar, Evo bhītar āve to sūje

English meaning: O brother! Within you there are nine veins and five evils. Glance inside then you will understand everything.

Verse 7

Ejī prem hansā prem piyājīsūṅ milīye, Teno āsan grahaṇ karīje

English meaning: O brother! Let the soul, possessed by love, meet the Lord of Love, and adopt a way to meet Him.

Verse 8

Ejī shashiyar chandra suraj rachnā, Evā hans ratan guṇ belī kīje

English meaning: O brother! Just as the luminous moon and sun have been created, in the same way make these virtues your companion within the soul.

Verse 9

Ejī shashiyar chandra vīr vījogaṇ, Teno manḍo gagantar jhūle

English meaning: O brother! In the light of the full-moon the waves of the sea jump because they are struck by the pang of separation and its heart tosses towards the sky.

Verse 10

Ejī padmaṇī prem mārag chokhā, Tene gur kero bhāv suhāve

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬istays sincerely on the path of love. She only likes the love of the spiritual guide.

Verse 11

Ejī hastaṇīkū to hujjat nāhīṅ, Jem koyal bole man raḷiyā

English meaning: O brother! Hasta۬idoes not argue with anybody, as the voice of the cuckoo fascinates the heart.

Verse 12

Ejī chetaṇīākū to chint ja nāhīṅ, Jem dūje doe taḍiyā

English meaning: O brother! Cheta۬idoes not think at all. She keeps quarrelling everywhere or puts her feet in both directions.

Verse 13

Ejī sankhaṇīyā ek shabd dohelā, Jenū Āli upar het ja nāhīṅ

English meaning: O brother! As for Sankha۬ieven a single word is difficult, who has no love for Ali (a.s.).

Verse 14

(Rāg changes from here) Ejī padmaṇī to preme rāche, Ne gināne rāche hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī to range rāche, Ane kaleshe rāche sankhaṇījī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬i i s i n t o x i c a t e d w i t h l o v e a n d Hasta۬iis intoxicated with Ginan (knowledge). Cheta۬i is frenzy in luxury and Sankha۬iis occupied with disputes and quarrels.

Verse 15

Ejīpadmaṇīek pahor nindrā, Ane do pahor nindrā hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī traṇ pahor nindrā, Ne aghor nindrā sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬isleeps only for a period of three hours and Hasta۬ifor two periods of three hours (6 hours). Cheta۬isleeps for three periods of three hours (9 hours) and Sankha۬isleeps endlessly.

Verse 16

Ejī padmaṇīto pohop gandhā, Ne chandan gandhā hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī to madh gandhā, Ne machh gandhā sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬ismells like flowers and Hasta۬i smells like sandalwood. Cheta۬ismells like wine (in some texts the word is GKūSinstead of madh which means incense) and Sankha۬istinks like fish.

Verse 17

Ejī padmaṇī pohop virkhā, Ne suphal virkhā hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī to khaṭūṅ virkhā, Ne vīkh virkhā sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬iis like a tree bearing flowers and Hasta۬iis like a tree bearing good fruit. Cheta۬iis like a tree bearing sour fruit and Sankha۬iis like a poisonous tree.

Verse 18

Ejī padmaṇī to komal kesha, Ne lamb kesha hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī to bhoring kesha, Ne ubh kesha sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬ihas soft hair and Hasta۬ihas long tresses. Cheta۬ihas hair that coils like a snake and Sankha۬ihas hair that stands.

Verse 19

Ejī padmaṇī to koyal shabdā, Ne mor shabdā hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī to sūḍā shabdā, Ne kāg shabdā sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬ispeaks like the cuckoo bird and Hasta۬ilike the peacock. Cheta۬italks like a parrot (in some text the word is VKL\āۜwhich means a jackal) and Sankha۬ispeaks like a crow.

Verse 20

Ejī padmaṇī ek pāu bhirkhā, Ne do pāu bhirkhā hastāṇī; Chetaṇī traṇ pāu bhirkhā, Ne āyā āroge sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬ieats one fourth and Hasta۬i eats two fourth (half). Cheta۬i eats three fourth and Sankha۬ieats whatever she can lay her hands on.

Verse 21

Ejī padmaṇī to palatra mānge, Ne halatra mānge hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī to māl mānge, Peṭbhare sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬iseeks the Hereafter and Hasta۬ i asks for the mundane goods. Cheta۬iasks for wealth whereas Sankha۬isatisfies only her own hunger.

Verse 22

Ejī padmaṇīne to potānī chintā, Ne gharnī chintā hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇīne pāḍosīnī chintā, Ne gām chintā sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬iis concerned only about her own self and Hasta۬iis worried about the family. Cheta۬iis curious about the neighbors and Sankha۬iis bothered about the whole village.

Verse 23

Ejī padmaṇī to antar bhajnī, Ne mālā bhajnī hastāṇī; Ā chetaṇī to dekhtā bhajnī, Ne bhang pāḍe sankhaṇī

English meaning: O brother! Padma۬iworships in her heart and Hasta۬i prays with a rosary. Cheta۬iprays in an ostentatious manner and Sankha۬idisturbs in the prayer.

Verse 24

(Rāg changes from here) Ejī terī merī sarve jug rāchyā, Bhāī gur binā hoe na soelā

English meaning: O brother! The whole world is occupied in selfishness. O brother! Without the true guide the path is not easy.

Verse 25

Ejī mathmatho amī mahāras, Evo bhītar āṇīne sojo

English meaning: O brother! Search within the depth of yourself and attain the nectar full of wisdom.

Verse 26

Ejī bhītar sojo to sarve vast paedā, Pīr Hasan Shāh ginan suṇāyā

English meaning: O brother! Search within yourself then you will achieve everything. Pir Hasan Shah (r.a.) has said this Ginan.
