Verse 1

(Selected Verses) Sat sabad hae gurū hamārā, Tāko lakhe na yo sansārā

English meaning: The true word is my spiritual guide; this world does not recognize it.

Verse 2

Sat sabadkā karo vichārā, Pīr shāhā kahoji vāramvārā

English meaning: Contemplate upon the tru e word; remember the name of Pir Shah time and again (or repeatedly).

Verse 3

Partham dhiān rasnāsūṅ kije, Nisdin pīr shāhā pīr shāhā bhaṇije

English meaning: Firstly remember with the tongue; say Pir Shah Pir Shah night and day.

Verse 4

Tin mās rasnā vich raheā, Pichhe nām brahm so kaheā

English meaning: For three months it remained on the tongue; then the Name was said from within.

Verse 5

Nām let bhaeā prem parkāsā, Tab upajeā man visvāsā

English meaning: Immediately upon taking the Name love was manifest; at that time conviction came in the heart.

Verse 6

Kaho prem lakhsh kesāre bhāi, Gupta bhed kahūṅ parghaṭ batāi

English meaning: Say what is the sign of love? I am unfolding a hidden mystery.

Gadgad laheri premki uṭhe, Tāṅ vich siri mukhki chhūṭe

English meaning: A ripple of love rises; in this condition a sweet stream flows from the mouth.

Verse 8

Hot galgali sukhme agāi, Tāṅ vich manvā raheā samāi

English meaning: He moves forward in the satisfaction of inner happiness; his heart remains immersed in it.

Chale traṭ jāṅhā premki dhārā, Pivat prem hovat matvārā

Brahm sukhki kāhā kahūṅ vaḍāi, Mahima adhik kahi nav jāi

English meaning: What can I say of the greatness of spiritual happiness? Its status is so high that nothing more can be said or whatever has been said, nothing more can be added.

Pothi patrā vāṅchi sunāve, Vā sukhki gati ve nahīṅ pāve

English meaning: Those who read big books for others cannot obtain the secret of this happiness.

Jaṭā juṭh kahāve bhagvānā, Ve sukh unte raheā chhānā

English meaning: Those who grow their hai r and call themselves God (or deity), this happiness remained concealed from them.

Verse 14

Jati rākh matā khāli raheā, Vā sukhkā ranj bhed na laheā

English meaning: Those who rubbed ash and became ascetic, but remained empty of intellect, did not have the slightest knowledge of the secret of this happiness.

Verse 15

Jogi hoke jugti na pāi, Unte ve sukh raheā samāi

English meaning: Those who became ascetic but did not know the method of worship, this happiness remained concealed or away from them.

Verse 16

Jangam nisdin visvās dhiāve, Vā sukhko kabahu na pāve

English meaning: The ascetic who faithfully obeys day and night, he too can never obtain this happiness.

Jindā hokar jad nahīṅ darse, Kaho vāhā sukhko kaese parse

English meaning: He who became an ascetic but does not experience ecstasy, how can he feel that happiness?

Aḍsaṭh tiratha deh navāi, Ve sukhki ve khabar na pāi

English meaning: Those who worship stones and ring bells, they cannot obtain that satisfaction even in their dreams.

Gāe vajāḍe toḍe tānā, Vā sukhkā ve mul na jānā

English meaning: Those who sing, play music and wind up tunes, they too could not know the essence of that happiness.

Verse 23

Bahutā dekhe bāndhe pothā, Vā sukh pāṅkhe rahe gaeā thothā

English meaning: Those who roam around carrying books to show (off to) others, they too remained hollow without that happiness.

Verse 24

Sab gināni mil paḍhi paḍhi phūlā, Vā sukhkā vae mārag bhūlā

English meaning: All the sages read jointly and are overjoyed, but they too have forgotten the path of (or have gone astray from) that happiness.

Verse 25

Jaḍi buṭi kari dehe jivāve, Vā sukhkū kabahū na pāve

English meaning: Those who eat medicinal herbs for the survival of their body, they too can never obtain that satisfaction.

Bahutā karie okhad pāni, Vā sukhki ve jugti na jāni

English meaning: Those who perform hundre ds of millions of rituals of sacrifice of horses, they too do not know the whereabouts of that happiness.

Jivat deh kheh vich dāṭi, Vā sukhki vae bhūlā ghāṭi

English meaning: Those who buried their bodi es in the earth while alive, they too strayed from the path of that happiness.

Verse 32

Nar savādi hoi kand khaḍi khāeā, Va sukhkā ve savād na pāeā

English meaning: Those who gave up the tas te of the tongue and ate medicinal herbs, they too could not have the taste of that happiness.

Guphā banāi rahe bhū māṅhi, Vae bhi e sukh pāeā nāṅhi

English meaning: Those who made caves and lived inside the earth, they too could not obtain that happiness.

Verse 34

Orat girath doe rākhe goṭā, Vā sukh pāṅkhe sādhan khoṭā

English meaning: Those who are busy in remaining suspended in the air or in remaining buried in the earth, without that happiness all these endeavors are false.

Kiyā savāgi aru kiyā sansārā Ek nām bhajan bin vae sukh niārā

English meaning: What to mention the histri onic (or actor) and the worldly, without taking (that) one Name, that happiness remained away from them.

An miliāki jugti banāi, Ab miliāki kahūṅ samjāi

English meaning: Those who did not obtain that happiness, their reality has been revealed. Now the truth about those who have obtained this satisfaction will be revealed.

Gor anhad ambar gāje, Man beṭhā trikūṭike chhāje

Jarmar varse sukhmanā mehā, Rahet nirinjan jāṅhāṅ vaṇ dehā

English meaning: The pattering rain of Sukhmanā or happiness falls, where the Invisible (God) lives without the body.

English meaning: Where incessant spiritual instruments are played, that is the sound of the flageolet. Where there is the luminosity of light, that is the very light of the sun.

Khalkat hae jāṅhāṅ sukhmanā gangā, Surti sabad doe mili sangā

English meaning: The Ganges is where the Sukhmanā has been created; where contemplation and the word meet, they are the companions.

Kaho ahu lok kesāre bhāi, Vāṅhā ki mahimā kahi na jāi

English meaning: O brother! Say how is the divine world? Its importance cannot be stated.

Verse 78

Akhanḍ sabad khanḍat na hoi, Nisdin rahat suratme soi

English meaning: The unbreakable word does not break; night and day he remains in contemplation.

Amar sabad mare nahīṅ jāṅhi, Rahi surti tāṅhā bich samāi

English meaning: Where this immortal word does not die, contemplation is immersed within it.

Ajar sabad dhiānsūṅ jareā, Sehejethi kām mugatikā sareā

English meaning: The unbreakable word was seen with single minded concentration and the account of the cycles of coming and going ended.

Verse 84

Sabad alekh jugatsūṅ lakheā, Jāṅhāṅ phal surti mugatikā chakheā

English meaning: When the incomprehensible word was comprehended with the method of worship, the fruit of contemplation and salvation was tasted.

Verse 85

Sabad adol bhave nahīṅ dole, Sabad atol tāṅhi koṇ tole

English meaning: The word is immoveable, it cannot be shaken by anybody; the word is incapable of being weighed, who can weigh it?

Verse 86

Sabad apār pār koṇ pāve, Sabad athā thā nahīṅ āve

English meaning: The word is infinite, who can achieve its limit? The word is unfathomable, no one can reach its depth.

Verse 87

Surti sabadkā jāṅhā hae vāsā, Jāṅhā nahiṅ dharaṇ nahīṅ ākāsā

English meaning: Where contemplation an d the word reside, neither earth nor sky is there.

Surti sabadki unmuni lāgi, Jā janam maraṇki khaḍbhaḍ bhāgi

English meaning: When contemplation and the word merge with each other, they become one as water mixes with water.

Ek same ab dehi chhūṭe, Toe surti sabadki gāṭhi na ṭūṭe

English meaning: (Then) there comes a time when the body is separated yet the bond between contemplation and word does not break.

Sabad niranjan nirākārā, Jisne pher anjan nahīṅ dhārā

English meaning: The word is above visib ility, form and figure; it does not become visible again.

Verse 94

Jis anjan dhārā nahīṅ kartā, Kartā so anjan nahīṅ dhartā

English meaning: The eyes cannot see it; whoe ver tries to see it does not possess eyes (or sight or vision).

Verse 95

Re rankār kirtār hamārā, Jiskā dise sakal pasārā

English meaning: This is the echo of my Creator whose signs are seen spread everywhere.

Verse 96

Sāheb so sab hi se mugtā, Mili raheā koe jogi jugtā

English meaning: The Lord is independen t of all bonds, if a devotee worships properly then he can obtain him.

Verse 97

Anjan māṅhe niranjan dekhā, Bahū dharaṇekā chhūṭā bhekhā

English meaning: With eyes he sees the unseen; the problem of repeatedly acquiring a form ended.

Jā jarmar jarmar amrat jari hae, Sukhmaṇā sukhme kirilā kari hae

English meaning: How are the fearless statements about God? Who can understand the secret without the confidant?

Sukh sāgar jāṅhāṅ subharhi bhareā, Tāṅhāṅ bich braham garak hoi raheā

English meaning: Where the ocean of happine ss is full to the brim, in it alone is God immersed.

Verse 103

Nij man nij padmā samāve, To yoni sankaṭ bahuri nahīṅ āve

English meaning: When the pure soul is imme rsed in God then it does not have to undergo the cycles of birth and death again.

Verse 104

Nij padme dekhe nij rūpā, So jan jivat mugat sarūpā

English meaning: When he sees his own soul within the Universal Soul, then he lives a life of eternal freedom.

Nij padki kiā kahūṅ mahimā parmā, Kuchh kahūṅ to bhi man sarmā

English meaning: What can I say of the attr ibute and importance of this status of the soul? If I say something then too the heart is shy.

Verse 106

Sujat āṅkhā tin hirā pāeā, Andhekū etbār na āeā

English meaning: He who possesses the eyes of insight he obtained the diamond but the blind did not believe.

Hirā bāndhiā gaṭhḍi māṅhi, To kiā bhaeā andhe māneā nāṅhi

English meaning: The diamond is tied up in a bundle; the blind who did not believe it, what did he gain?

Tin lok je koe phiri āve, Ek nām bhaje bin mugti na pāve

English meaning: If someone roams the three worlds and returns then too without the remembrance of the one Name, cannot obtain salvation.

Sāheb nām hae mohosar neḍā, Bhavsāgar tarve kā beḍā

English meaning: The name of the Lord is a n easy means of obtaining nearness (or intimacy), it is the boat of crossing the ocean of life.

Jo karsi koe kaheā hamārā, To tūṅhi tūṅhi karsi ek hi dhārā

English meaning: Whoever will act according to our words then he will continuously or in the same rhythm say ‘Only You’, ‘Only You’.

Verse 113

Tūṅhi tūṅ sāheb nisdin karsi, To bhavsāgar nische kar tarsi

English meaning: If you will call out day and night that O Lord! Only You are, then surely (you) will cross the ocean of life.

Verse 114

Je koe sāheb nām dhiāve, Te Alijan sāhebkūṅ pāve

English meaning: Whoever remembers the name of the Lord, that slave of Ali (a.s.) obtains the Lord.

Verse 115

Nām raṭe bin janam gamāve, Samaraṇ kartā suphal tan kahāve

English meaning: Without the remembrance of the Name he wastes his life; whoever remembers (the Name) his being is worth his while.

Verse 116

Nām raṭat abhimān haṭāeā, Tin kāl karamkā bhae maṭāeā

English meaning: The remembrance of the Name ends pride; he becomes liberated from the fear of the burden of the deeds of the three eras.

English meaning: He removes all other dou bts and engraves only His own name within.

Tāte avar vichār na kije, Jese tese nij nām ja lije

Mehedi Imām jab chhatra dharāve, Doā das anant mokh tab pāve

English meaning: When Imam Mehdi (a.s.) (the Imam of the time) will establish the Kingdom, the twelve crores (120 million) and the countless millions of souls will be saved.
